Cobblemon Type Chart: Strengths, Weaknesses & Matchups

Cobblemon uses the same type system as the official Pokémon games: 18 types (Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel, Fairy), with every move and every Pokémon belonging to one or two of these types, and a chain of strengths and weaknesses that multiplies damage by 2x (super effective), 0.5x (not very effective), or 0x (no effect, immunity), based on the attacking move’s type versus the defending Pokémon’s type.

How to read this table

Each row corresponds to the type of the move being used, not the type of the Pokémon using it (a Fire/Flying Charizard can learn a Ground-type move, which then follows the Ground row’s rules). A Pokémon can have one or two types at once, and multipliers stack: an Ice-type move against a Grass/Flying Pokémon deals 4x normal damage (2x for each weak type), while a Fire-type move against a Fire/Water Pokémon deals only 0.25x damage (0.5x for each resisting type).

Type breakdown

Normal

No standout offensive strength but weak to Fighting, and has no effect against Ghost. A solid baseline, rarely an optimal offensive pick competitively.

Fire

Strong against Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel, but fears Water, Rock, and Ground, which all deal double damage.

Water

Strong against Fire, Ground, and Rock, but weak to Electric and Grass.

Grass

Strong against Water, Ground, and Rock, but resisted by a wide range of offensive types and weak against Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug, making it offensively fragile despite solid defensive resistances.

Electric

Strong against Water and Flying, completely ineffective against Ground (full immunity), with no defensive weakness other than Ground.

Ice

Strong against Grass, Ground, Flying, and Dragon, but very fragile defensively: four types deal double damage (Fire, Fighting, Rock, Steel).

Fighting

Strong against Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel, but fears Flying, Psychic, and Fairy.

Poison

Strong against Grass and Fairy, ineffective against Steel (immunity), weak against Ground and Psychic.

Ground

Strong against Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, and Steel, completely ineffective against Flying Pokémon (immunity), weak against Water, Grass, and Ice.

Flying

Strong against Grass, Fighting, and Bug, weak against Electric, Ice, and Rock.

Psychic

Strong against Fighting and Poison, ineffective against Dark (immunity), weak against Bug, Ghost, and Dark.

Bug

Strong against Grass, Psychic, and Dark, but resisted by many types, weak against Fire, Flying, and Rock.

Rock

Strong against Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug, but one of the most defensively vulnerable types, with five weaknesses (Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, Steel).

Ghost

Strong against Psychic and itself, ineffective against Normal and Fighting (mutual immunity with Normal), weak against Ghost and Dark.

Dragon

Only strong against itself, ineffective against Fairy (immunity), weak against Ice, Dragon, and Fairy. Offensively powerful (its STAB is rarely resisted outside Fairy) but with a critical weakness to the Fairy type, introduced specifically to counterbalance Dragon’s historical dominance.

Dark

Strong against Psychic and Ghost, weak against Fighting, Bug, and Fairy.

Steel

Strong against Ice, Rock, and Fairy, ineffective against Poison (immunity), but weak against Fire, Fighting, and Ground despite an excellent overall defensive profile (resists many types).

Fairy

Strong against Fighting, Dragon, and Dark, weak against Poison and Steel.

The strongest type for PvP in Cobblemon

No single type is objectively the strongest on its own: effectiveness depends on the Pokémon’s type combination, its move pool, and the current meta. That said, certain dual types keep showing up in S tier on competitive tier lists (Dragon/Flying, Steel/Flying, Water/Ground) because they stack few shared weaknesses with a strong offensive profile. Steel remains statistically one of the most solid defensive types in the whole game (it resists eight different types).

From type theory to a real fight

Knowing the type chart by heart is step one, but applying it under pressure against a human opponent is a different skill. On a PvP server like The Tower, every switch and move choice matters for real: permanent death strikes inside the Tower and during raid attacks, turning a simple type-matchup mistake into an actual loss. The server runs a French-speaking beta on Discord, with the full combat rules on the La Tour page.

FAQ

How many types exist in Cobblemon? 18 types, exactly like the official Pokémon games since the Fairy type was introduced: Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel, and Fairy.

Is Cobblemon’s type system identical to the official Pokémon games? Yes, Cobblemon faithfully reproduces the full chart of strengths, weaknesses, and immunities from the official games, with no additional mod-specific type as of now.

What’s the strongest type for PvP in Cobblemon? There’s no universally superior type: defensive and offensive profile depends on the dual-type combination, the available move pool, and the current meta. Combinations with few shared weaknesses (like Steel/Flying or Water/Ground) frequently top competitive tier lists.
