The Cobblemon Pokédex is used to scan Pokémon, track the species seen or caught, and view their information. It does not replace either the PC or a Poké Ball: it is a tool for observation and progression. Once crafted, it allows you to search for a species, an ability, or a dropped item, then open a file whose content depends on what you have already discovered.
Craft the Pokédex and Choose Its Color
The official recipe consulted on September 3, 2026 uses four iron ingots, two copper ingots, two Apricorns of the desired color, and a Pokédex screen. The seven proposed colors correspond to the seven colors of Apricorns: red, yellow, green, blue, pink, black, and white. This choice personalizes the item, but the documentation does not describe any functional difference between these colors.
Gather the components before a long exploration. Also keep something to repair or replace your usual Minecraft equipment. The Pokédex has a stack size of one, so assign it a stable slot in the hotbar or inventory to avoid mixing it with collected items.
The Pokédex was added with Cobblemon 1.6.0. If its recipe or interface is missing, first check the version of the mod and the server. The Cobblemon installation guide explains how to avoid mixing incompatible chargers or files. On a modpack, the recipe book and any server modifications remain a priority.
Record a species by scan, battle, or capture
Three main ways feed the Pokédex. Holding right-click with the item in hand allows you to scan a Pokémon. Fighting a creature also records it as seen. Capturing it with a Poké Ball automatically adds it as captured. These states do not give exactly the same level of information.
A simple scan reveals a limited part of the record, while the capture unlocks more data. This difference gives a reason to observe even when you do not want to engage in a fight. During the scan, the interface notably displays the name, gender, level, and ownership status. If the species has already been captured, its type may also be displayed.
The wheel adjusts the scanner zoom to observe from a longer distance. A left click held on a hovered Pokémon opens its page in the Pokédex. A right click on the scanned target also opens the corresponding record. In dangerous areas, place yourself in safety first: the interface does not prevent the world from continuing around you.
Read the cards and use the filters
The cards can display types, gender differences, regional forms, regional biases, cries, animations, abilities, size, weight, base stats, dropped items, and a description. Not all of this data is necessarily visible upon first encounter. Distinguish hidden information from missing data or a bug.
The menu can be sorted by region. Its search accepts in particular the name of a species, a capacity, or a dropped item. This search transforms the Pokédex into a preparation tool: look for a useful drop, identify the possible species, then organize an expedition. To prepare for a battle, complete this information with the guide of types and weaknesses.
The numbers of species seen and caught appear at the top right. Since version 1.7, the official notes state that these counters update according to the currently viewed Pokédex. Custom dexes can therefore modify the displayed range. Do not compare two percentages without checking that they relate to the same list.
Organize an effective Pokédex progression
Start by scanning the creatures encountered during your ordinary trips. This way, you enrich the list without interrupting each journey with a battle. Then, use filters to spot the obvious gaps by region or by family, and then plan outings in different environments.
When you capture, keep a team with complementary roles, healing, and several types of balls. Our guide to healing a Cobblemon team helps prepare for battle returns. A successful capture sends the Pokémon to the team or the PC depending on available space. The Pokédex, for its part, keeps the corresponding entry.
Catching is never limited on The Tower. The Pokédex is used to track discovery, not to impose a quota. Permanent death only occurs in the Tower and during raids, nowhere else. A session of observation or capturing during ordinary exploration does not change this rule.
Avoid confusion with administrative orders
The command documentation contains actions allowing an administrator to grant or remove Pokédex entries. They require the necessary permissions and do not constitute a player’s normal progression. Do not use them to simulate a completed Pokédex on a survival server.
After a problem, start by checking that you are looking at the correct Pokédex and the correct region, then redo a scan or a test capture. Restart only after keeping the useful logs. If an administrative correction is necessary, document the target and the entry concerned instead of granting the entire collection.
The version 1.7 release notes also report several fixes related to shapes, completion statistics, zooming, and data saving. An issue reproduced on an older version therefore does not reflect the current behavior.
