Since Cobblemon’s Set Course update, some compatible Pokémon can be used as mounts. To mount one, send out a compatible creature, right-click while holding the crouch key, then choose the mount option from the interaction menu. Not every Pokémon can be mounted, and a single species does not necessarily support all three land, aquatic, and aerial styles.
Check the Version and Pokémon Compatibility
Mounting was introduced in Cobblemon 1.7.0. Subsequent patches added or adjusted certain mounts: the official 1.7.2 page notably mentions Honchkrow and Mantine, along with a configuration option for dismounting in flight. The list therefore depends on the server’s actual version and must not be inferred from a Pokémon’s appearance alone.
Start by checking the modpack version. If you manage your own instance, the Cobblemon installation guide explains how to align Minecraft, the loader, and the mod. On a community server, use the supplied pack and read its rules: an addon or configuration may adjust mount access.
Then send the Pokémon out into the world. Hold the key used to crouch, right-click it, and look for the mount option. If it does not appear, check the official list of mountable species, the creature’s form, and the version. Do not try a spawn command to bypass an incompatibility.
Choose Between Land, Water, and Air
The official documentation classifies abilities by style. A “Standard” mount travels on land. Aquatic styles notably include “Submarine” and “Dolphin.” For air travel, the list uses styles such as “Bird,” “Jet,” “Hover,” and “Rocket.” These categories are not merely visual names: they determine behavior, stamina use, and sometimes the conditions required to take off or remain aloft.
The mounts page also lists the number of seats. Blastoise, for example, is shown with two seats, a Standard land style, a Submarine aquatic style, and a Rocket aerial style. Charizard has a Standard land style and a Bird aerial style. However, a seat shown in the table does not guarantee that your server uses exactly the same revision.
Choose the mount based on the route. To explore uneven terrain, first test handling in an open area. To cross an ocean, check behavior at the surface and underwater near the shore. For flying, practice at low altitude and keep a landing route in mind.
Understand Mount Statistics
Each compatible mount has statistics that affect its behavior. The official documentation notably describes speed, acceleration, skill, stamina, and proficiency. Their exact effects depend on the style.
Stamina limits intensive use. For a Standard mount, it affects sprint duration. For Submarine and Dolphin styles, it is involved in oxygen. For Bird and Jet, it limits flight time. For Hover and Rocket, it relates to maximum height or staying aloft. When depleted, the corresponding ability stops until stamina recovers.
Proficiency also changes function by mount. On a Dolphin style, it affects diving and surfacing movements as well as jumping. On Bird, it improves gliding efficiency. On Jet, it reduces the speed required for takeoff. On Hover, it increases the height reached before stamina is consumed. On Rocket, it improves ascent.
Adjust the Camera and Ride Safely
Update 1.7.0 remembers the preferred camera mode for each style, then restores it when the player mounts or dismounts. If rolling movements cause discomfort, the official notes recommend the “Disable Roll” option. Adjust this setting before a long flight instead of during a maneuver.
Practice without rare items, away from the void and dangerous areas. Identify the acceleration, jump, descent, and dismount keys in your configuration. Servers may use different controls or protections. Make a short first trip and watch the stamina gauge before crossing a large expanse.
Version 1.7.2 documents an “Enable In-Flight Dismounting” option, disabled by default. If it remains disabled, do not assume there is a bug when dismounting in midair does not respond. If an administrator enables it, that does not make the fall safe. Always plan a landing area.
Prepare for Exploration or a Server Activity
A mount speeds up travel, but does not replace team preparation or knowledge of the terrain. Bring navigation supplies, set a return point, and check your Pokémon’s condition. After a battle, the Cobblemon healing guide helps you choose between a machine and items. To join server activities, also see the The Tower access guide.
Mounting does not change The Tower’s foundational rules. Permadeath applies only in the Tower and during raids, nowhere else. Capture remains unlimited. A mount is a travel and exploration tool, not a new permadeath area.

FAQ
Why Does the Mount Option Not Appear?
The Pokémon, its form, or the server version may not be compatible. Check the official list, use the server’s exact pack, and test the interaction while holding the crouch key.
Can Every Flying Pokémon Be Mounted?
No. Only species and forms configured as mounts are compatible. Their appearance or type alone is not enough to prove it.
Can You Dismount in Midair?
Cobblemon 1.7.2 documents a dedicated option that is disabled by default. Its state depends on the server. Even when enabled, dismounting at altitude exposes the player to a fall.
